Gilbert and George

Filed under: Silliness, Out and About in London — helen @ 2:43 pm

We saw the Gilbert and George exhibit at the Tate Modern last week. It was awesome.

I also got addicted to this flash game where you make pictures of yourself and friends in the South Park style.

So I did an homage to Gilbert and George. I call it Life and Death. I do crack myself up sometimes.

Single Scone Recipe

Filed under: Recipes — helen @ 11:12 am

I just made ONE scone! I felt like a scone, but didn’t want to make a whole batch so I invented the single scone recipe. And it turned out really really well! Possibly the best scone ever made.
The measurements are just dessert spoons. Of course to make x scones you can just multiply all the measurements by x.
Ingredients:

3 slightly heaped spoon fulls of self raising flour

2 spoon fulls of lemonade

2 spoon fulls of milk

1 spoon full of olive oil

Thats it!

Stir them all together lightly with a fork just until the flour disolves into the wet stuff. It will look lumpy, but don’t worry it puffs up in the oven. You should have a small wodge about the size of a peach. It should be quite a loose ball, but not runny. So you need a spoon to move it to the tray, but only just. A bit like oatmeal porridge.
Plonk it onto a piece of greased baking paper in some kind of oven dish and bake for between 10 and 15 minutes on a fairly warm setting - about 200 degrees C.

Eat it with jam and cream or just butter. I had mine with jam and Greek yogurt. YUM.

Mini Cooper!

Filed under: Personal — helen @ 4:16 pm

Todd’s a dad! Such a proud dad. Look at his face. And that makes me an auntie! Cos Todd and I are kinda brother and sister.

As his aunty I had the very great honour of ‘naming’ Baby Cooper - so I named him Mini Cooper. OK not really. Fact is Dina and Todd haven’t quite decided what to call him yet, but in Gujarati culture you have a naming ceremony on the baby’s sixth day. I didn’t get a nice shot of Dina, but here’s a nice one of her lovely mum.

Proud GranTod and MiniAunty HelenKaushik burping technique

And here’s Uncle Kaushik demonstrating his never fail burping technique. It involves pressing on the chest, straightening out the wind pipe and furiously rubbing the back. Apparently it works a treat. Bet you never thought you’d learn how to burp a baby on my blog!

A Nice New War

Filed under: Silliness — helen @ 2:44 pm

Will the US go to war with Iran? This is how I envisage it will start…

Ahmadinejad: Cor blimey it’s tough being the boss.
George W Bush: Tell me about it.
Ahmadinejad: My people hate you guys. They just love me when I rattle my sabre at you.
George W Bush: I know, I know, and my investors love me when I talk tough. - I don’t actually care what my ‘people’ think.
Ahmadinejad: We really should give them a little show.
George W Bush: Ok how’s Tuesday? Is Tuesday good for you? Yo Blair, stop eating all the smoked salmon canapes.
Ahmadinejad: Ooh do they have wasabi in them?
